Purchased approximately 20 years ago from an antique shop near New York, USA. This is an old, thick, authentic enamel sign plate. It's a bit heavy for its size. It's a hard-to-find, oval-shaped "MEN" enamel sign. I was told this was an old American-made piece from a company in Ohio at the time, and that these solid, old enamel signs are rare. It seems these were mainly installed in bathrooms of cafes, bars, and restaurants in the 30s and 40s. You still occasionally see them in old cafes today. This is an enamel sign that cannot be replicated by the recent antique-style reproduction signs from Asia and Japan. These truly used, old sign plates are almost unavailable in America and are quite expensive even there. It would look great anywhere indoors, instantly giving your home an antique atmosphere. This is also perfect for a shop. It's wonderful to have several of these signs, and many American collectors have them. It has the shabby look of a sign that has been used for a long time. Also recommended for antique sign collectors. The condition is as it was when purchased. There is aging-related dirt, dust, scratches, rust, paint marks, and chips in the mounting area, but it's still in pretty good condition.
