This is a B♭ clarinet mouthpiece, B40 Lyre, made by Vandoren. It was selected by Mr. Kosuke Hara of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. It comes with a case signed by him. The current retail price is 19,580 yen (including tax). The B40 Lyre is a very frequently used mouthpiece, not only by professional players but also by amateur musicians in wind bands and other ensembles. It has a long facing and a moderate tip opening, providing flexibility in tone. It can be considered an intermediate design between the 5RV Lyre and the B40, making it easy to handle even for beginners. I have used more than 10 B40 Lyre mouthpieces so far, and this particular one is distinctive even among the same model. It produces a mellow and full sound without being sharp. The low and mid-range tones are especially warm. The high range is not shrill. I think it is ideal for wind band players for whom sound blending is important. To put it negatively, it doesn't have a solistic, flashy feel, so it may not be suitable for those who prefer that kind of sound. I purchased it around 2020 and used it for about two months, just for playing. There are no noticeable scratches, but there is some discoloration on the back because it was stored out of the case (see photo 6). There are also traces of a patch.
