Thank you for viewing. This is an auction for an incredibly cool Dietz NO38 Railroad Vulcan lantern. This bell-bottom railroad lantern was used by "brakemen." A brakeman is a crew member who operates the train's brakes. In those days, trains did not have brakes in the driver's seat (engine room), and it was necessary to apply brakes to the wheels of each car. Therefore, there were multiple brakemen on one train, and teamwork was essential. The bell-bottom design was probably made for such brakemen, emphasizing stability when placed on the ground. All parts have been polished and finished with high-grade iron-specific oil. It is very resistant to rust. It will repel a little rain. I considered black rust processing or seasoning, but I left it as is because the ruggedness is so cool for this antique item. It's incredibly cool when lit in the dark! It's very sad to let it go, but I'm listing it because I have too many lanterns. I hope someone will cherish it. You probably won't see many like it! Light source/power supply: Oil Year: ~1950s
