This is a Nishiki-ki script shogi piece, made by Seizan Kanai, a pawn. No price reduction. It is a moriage koma (raised-letter piece), but it has been used quite a bit, and both the front and back are in a hori-ume (carved and filled) state. (It seems Seizan Kanai only made moriage pieces.) There is some lacquer spatter on the front of the piece (see photo 3). There are scratches from use overall. The King piece in photos 4 and 5 is not included. It's not often you get to see a Seizan Kanai piece, but when you do, you'll say, "Wow." I've polished it with Seto polishing, so it shines. Seizan's signature indicates the era by its form, and with this calligraphy style, it's a work from around 1950-1960. Approximately 2.55cm x 2.0cm x 0.65cm Seizan Kanai In a corner of Tokyo's downtown area, five master craftsmen (Ryuzan Toyoshima, Ikka Okuno, Fumitoshi Kimura, Eisu Miyamatsu, and Seizan Kanai) were born. Among them, Seizan (real name Akio Kanai) continued to make shogi pieces until he was over 80 years old. Seizan began making shogi pieces at the suggestion of Ryuzan Toyoshima, who lived nearby. In 1940, after the deaths of Ryuzan and his son in quick succession, he helped make pieces at the request of the widow of the second-generation Ryuzan. He also cooperated when Eisu began making pieces, and when Eisu passed away, he was asked by the widow to help with the carving.
