This is the hilt of a wakizashi. The fuchi (collar), menuki (grip ornaments), and kashira (pommel) are all genuine antique pieces. The fine gold-plating work is highly detailed and has plenty of interesting points. While they could be taken apart and appreciated individually, the sensitivity of the hilt-wrapping craftsman of the time is still very much alive.
