This is a contrabass clarinet, commonly referred to as a "water pipe." It's a size suitable for seated playing. I think it can be used actively in brass bands and ensembles. Compared to Selmer models, it's more compact, making it easier to carry on public transportation. Because the bore is narrower than Selmer models, the sound resonates well with less breath.
