This is a vase from the VEB (state-owned enterprise) pottery of Haldensleben, located in East Germany. It has a design characteristic of Haldenleben. The reddish-brown patterned areas have a rough texture. The inside is black, and the mouth is a light, pale blue. Haldensleben is the name of a city in the present-day state of Saxony-Anhalt. That name became the name of the state-owned pottery. Its history dates back to 1855. Jacob Uffrecht spent most of his time as a potter in Haldebsleben. He established a pottery factory in 1855 and a stoneware factory in 1884. In 1886, Jacob retired, and his three sons established a company named "J. Uffrecht & Co" and took responsibility, which was later taken over by Jacob's grandson.
