Military figures are adult figures for ages 15 and up. You can recreate special forces and soldiers from movies and FPS games with high quality. American GI Joe is famous, but the main size is 1/6, or 12 inches. There are slight size differences depending on the manufacturer, but weapons, combat uniforms, helmets, and equipment are generally compatible [some modifications may be necessary for attachment]. In Japan, there are almost no stores that carry them in Akihabara, and online purchase is the main way to acquire them. At the highest quality, figures can be made that are mistaken for humans.
