This is a fine quality square plate purchased from an antique art dealer. The workmanship is exquisite. It has a rare and interesting composition. The circular window in the center features a landscape design. There are no depictions of the sea or waves. It's interesting to consider that the white of the sea of clouds represents the sea, as it's a mountainous scene. From there, the four surrounding windows feature a shippo (seven treasures) pattern. They are made at a slightly lower level, demonstrating very careful craftsmanship. The spaces between the windows are filled with stylized peony designs in the center and arabesque patterns to fill the blank spaces. The body of the plate features arabesque patterns. The mark reads "瑞" (Zui). The period is said to be from the late Edo period to the Meiji period. There is a crack of about 2 centimeters. It's in a particularly thin area, so the crack is unavoidable. Other than that, there may be kiln marks. There are very few scratches. Please examine the images carefully.
