● This is a modified Alesis 3630 Compressor. ◯ It's a 1U size, 2-channel combination of compressor and gate. The internal circuit is very simple, with only the input buffer ～ VCA ～ output buffer in the signal path, resulting in very high sound quality. ◯ You can switch between Peak and RMS (average value). Use Peak to suppress strong attacks like drums, and RMS for a natural compression effect on the overall sound. ◯ The sound quality is wonderfully natural, with almost no change even when reducing by 20dB. Being a 2-channel unit, it can be used for snare and kick, vocals and bass, or as a total compressor for recording and live performances. The lack of tonal change and its small size make it convenient for live recordings. ◯ Modifications include replacement of power supply diodes and capacitors, metal film resistors in the signal path, tantalum capacitors for better sound, and the high-speed National Semiconductor LME49740 op-amp for improved sound quality. ◯ The gate has been modified with a switchable potentiometer to bypass it. Turning the gate knob to zero clicks and bypasses the gate circuit. ◯ It's very popular as a classic in the US, with modification kits available. It has been made into a VST plugin called NightShine, and searching will yield many articles. One site even nominated it as the 20th best compressor of all time, alongside legendary units like the Fairchild 670 and Urei 1176. ◯ Accessories include a general-purpose power supply and a homemade sidechain filter. The sidechain filter prevents compression on low frequencies, resulting in a more natural effect when used on 2-mixes. ◯ I always list the same item, but it's a different unit each time.
