With a V-neck and a truly long maxi length, you can look great in just one piece. You can wear a jacket over it, but it's perfectly fine on its own. I usually wear a size L, but I wanted a maxi length, and I bought a 3XL to avoid the lines of my underwear showing through the T-shirt fabric. The body width and other size aspects aren't too big, and I can wear it comfortably. Because it has a significant drape, I don't mind the extra fabric. Because it's T-shirt fabric, I think it's better than a just-right size, as it doesn't look too thin. It's a casual dress, but the V-neck makes it look beautiful.
