● Ujiharun Nagasawa Ujiharun Nagasawa was the only holder of the Intangible Cultural Property Preservation Technique designation among Japanese Noh mask makers. There are many types of Noh masks, but Ujiharun specialized in the female mask, which is said to be the most difficult to make. Nagasawa Ujiharun's Noh masks are highly popular. Proper Noh masks are made with an asymmetrical face. The left side of the face is yin (dark face), and the right side is yang (bright face). Because of the fundamentally unmoving, doll-like solid posture, a slightly sorrowful gesture emphasizes the "yin face" and the sadness, and raising the mask with a slightly cheerful feeling makes the "yang face" emit a bright light. This unconscious amplitude of yin and yang on the left and right sides seems to make people feel a certain mystery or eeriness. It's fascinating to see something that combines both extremes within a seemingly balanced whole. However, it has been stored in a dark place without being used at all after purchase, but there were some minor scratches from when it was received.
