It's a tunnel construction, meaning the side of the otaiko (the back part of the obi) isn't sewn, making it suitable for the single-layered kimono season. I specialize in these casual obis, and while I thought it would match many kimonos, it was surprisingly difficult to pair. Perhaps I should say I didn't have any kimonos on hand that could handle these vivid colors. It would look great with something light-colored or a kimono with colors as vibrant as this obi. A plain or scattered pattern might be best. I hope those who have a specific kimono in mind that would be perfect for this obi will purchase it!
