The BOSS OD-2 TURBO OverDrive, sold from 1985 to 1994, is an evolutionary successor to the OD-1. Unlike the OD-1, which used an op-amp IC, the OD-2 employs a discrete circuit design, without using an IC. A key feature is the TURBO mode, which allows for a higher-gain sound than the standard overdrive. Additionally, the OD-2 includes a TONE knob, which the OD-1 lacked. This, combined with the TURBO mode, greatly expands the range of sound shaping possibilities.
