Approximately 9 x 9.5 x 3.5 cm. This is a "Kintoki Riding a Carp" doll from Konosu Ningyo. Konosu is a doll-making region with a history of about 400 years, and in 2011, it was designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. The base material is made by mixing paulownia sawdust with glue and kneading it, then shaping it with a wooden mold and finishing it with animal glue and gofun (powdered oyster shell). It's similar to the materials used in Japanese painting. While there are dolls in ordinary colors, this vividly red one is specifically called "Konosu Akamono" (Konosu Red Item). It was given to children to pray for their safety, warding off disease and evil spirits. It's harder than papier-mâché and has a clearer shape, yet it's very light. The first Konosu doll I got was a large beckoning cat. It was so light that I couldn't figure out what it was made of for a while... I listed it on Mercari and someone told me, and from there I started researching and collecting them little by little ^_^ Thank you to the person who commented at that time!
