Bokudo Sato (born 1935) is a Zen Buddhist monk who served as the chief priest of Fukuju-in Temple of the Rinzai Sect, Daitoku-ji school. Brief History: 1935 (Showa 10): Born in Kyoto Prefecture. 1947 (Showa 22): Became a disciple of Master Kido at Zo-un-ji Temple of the Daitoku-ji school in Hyogo Prefecture and received ordination. 1956 (Showa 31): Trained at the Myoshin-ji Temple training hall in Kyoto. 1971 (Showa 46): Became the chief priest of Fukuju-in Temple of the Daitoku-ji school in Katata, Otsu City. 1977 (Showa 52): Promoted to the position of former chief priest of Daitoku-ji Temple. Fukuju-in Temple was founded as a Zen training hall by Zen Master Kaigan Ryogi, a disciple of Daito Kokushi, the founder of Daitoku-ji Temple, during the Nanboku-cho period. Since its founding, it has been struck by two major fires, but the current buildings were rebuilt in 1989. The temple buildings, including the main hall, kuri (kitchen and living quarters), and bell tower, are accentuated by black pine trees. Master Bokudo Sato was active in various fields, such as writing inscriptions on tea utensils and hanging scrolls. In particular, his tea scoops were inscribed with names such as "Semi-shigure" (Cicada Shower) and "Zuisho" (Auspicious Sign), and his works are highly regarded in the tea ceremony world.
