phuu-tao (プータオ) An original tank top brand made in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. ■ Made with care in a Thai home The designs and fabric selection are handled by me, a Japanese person, while a Thai friend living in Chiang Mai does the drafting, cutting, and hand-sewing of the sides. The sides are intentionally hand-sewn to avoid the thickness of machine stitching, and slits are added to both sides of the hem for a more comfortable fit. The sewing is done by the mother of a friend who used to make clothes for boutiques. She takes her time and sews carefully. All the work is done in her home, and I stay there and work with them. The fabric used is a durable 100% cotton woven fabric, machine-woven based on the traditional patterns of the minority ethnic groups in Northern Thailand. It is slightly thick but breathable, and does not stick to the skin even when you sweat, so you can wear it comfortably even in hot weather. Since it is not a stretch material, you may feel a little stiffness when you first wear it, but the fabric will soften with each wash and gradually conform to your body. We offer three sizes: M, L, and XL.
