This is a holder for attaching a 3-inch square filter, approximately 75mm x 75mm, to the front of a lens. It's convenient for creating unique photos with homemade filters, especially soft filters. As you probably know, it's a spring-loaded type that simply clips onto the end of the lens, making it easy to use. Currently, I haven't noticed any particular problems with its use.
