This is a Chinese hanging scroll. It's a round mounting with a single character and a bag mounting without a wind band. It was sold in my grandfather's shop 30 years ago. It was displayed and sold at the time, and has been stored in a paper box ever since. Due to its age, there is deterioration, discoloration, old stains, and sun damage throughout. There is some fraying of the thread at the seam between the single character and the main paper (see photo 5). The backing paper has sun damage, discoloration, paper warping, damage, and old stains (see photos 7-10). There is dirt on and around the end of the roller. There is a gap between the roller bar and the end of the roller (see photo 18). The hanging cord, the rolling cord, and the surrounding area have discoloration, wrinkles, and frayed strings.
