I am Minista, a creator of inspiring suzuri (inkstones). I create inkstones that make writing and painting more enjoyable, and make the time spent grinding ink a pleasure. This is an unused inkstone, but it is a Shiunseki inkstone that has been tuned by Minista (by remodeling the ink well and ink surface to improve the inkstone's performance). The back of the inkstone is engraved with "Higashiyama Shiun Meiseki Tetsuji Saku" (Eastern Mountain Shiun Famous Stone, Made by Tetsuji). This inkstone was made by Mr. Tetsuji Sato. Mr. Tetsuji Sato is particular about the selection of stones. He only uses a few percent of the stones he quarries for inkstones. Shiunseki inkstones are said to be quarried in the area from Ichinoseki City to Kesennuma City in Iwate Prefecture, but the quality of the stones varies greatly. There are aspects that you don't know until you try making them. Japanese inkstones tend to be like that, with a variety of inkstone stones being produced in small quantities throughout Japan. If the stones are not properly selected, they are often not suitable for use as inkstones. Mr. Tetsuji makes inkstones with a strong sense of purpose, carefully selecting the stones. He has a stern impression, but he is a friendly and approachable person. I once arranged and sent him the coating material for inkstones because he said he couldn't get it. This stone is exceptionally good among Shiunseki stones. It produces excellent ink color and flow with both oil soot and pine soot inks, so it is recommended for kana (Japanese syllabary), and ink painting. Good for kana (up to hanshi paper size), ink painting, sutra copying, and fine writing. It's a light inkstone, so it's also good for carrying around.
