I made spirit horses and cows to decorate the Obon altar using crepe fabric. We kindly ask those in areas experiencing bad weather to understand that delivery may be delayed. We will take precautions against water damage, but please also understand this. Originally, these are made with fresh cucumbers and eggplants, but they tend to spoil in the recent extreme heat, so I made them with crepe fabric and added saddles made of gold brocade. My grandfather taught me that the cucumber horse welcomes the spirits quickly, and the eggplant cow sends them off slowly to the other world. These horses are looking up, eager to quickly welcome loved ones from the other world. My family's horses had corn silk for tails, so these have long tails as a remnant of that. Let's send off the cows slowly with a feeling of reluctance.
