This is the first-generation Roland SP-404. Following the BOSS SP-202 and SP-303, it's a popular model both domestically and internationally as a lo-fi sampler. The sound is rougher than the Roland SP-404SX, and when effects like Vinyl Sim and Comp are applied, the sound becomes thicker, creating the unique sound of this machine. Famous overseas beatmakers like Teebs and DIBIA$E, as well as Japanese artists like BUDAMUNK and tajima ha, are said to still favor the original Roland SP-404. Sampling from external inputs, main input/output terminals, headphone jack, each pad, rotary knobs, and the effects have all been checked and confirmed to be working.
