This is a visiting kimono featuring tsujigahana shibori and dyeing on white fabric of Hama chirimen (Kawato Chijimi No. 1) woven in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. The kimono features a variety of flowing, curved Michi-nagatori frames, within which tsujigahana patterns are created using nui-shime shibori (sewn-and-tied resist dyeing). Furthermore, after flat-stitching and tightening the edges of the white Michi-nagatori, bamboo bark shibori using vinyl, a substitute for bamboo bark, is applied. This work is a high-quality visiting kimono created using a technique called kokechi, which prevents dye from penetrating the fabric due to the pressure of the sewn and tied threads. After completing the tsujigahana shibori pattern within the Michi-nagatori and applying resist dyeing, the kimono is dyed in a yellowish, subdued reddish-brown beni-karairo color and gray, and then, after resist dyeing, it is pulled-dyed with a yellowish, light reddish-orange shuka (hanezu) color, which becomes the base color of the kimono. The three-dimensional effect of the shibori dyeing technique is visually striking, resulting in a fantastical and beautiful pictorial pattern. In the pull-dyeing process, skilled artisans use a brush made of deer hair to dye a 3-jo (13m) length of fabric evenly in one go, requiring a highly advanced level of craftsmanship. Please take this opportunity to wear the phantom tsujigahana. The lining is white habutae silk, and the hakkei (underskirt) uses seika fabric with a beni-karairo gradation. Both the outer and inner fabrics are pure silk.
