This is a beautiful tobacco set, likely made of Japanese zelkova wood (keyaki). The wood grain is exquisite, and the wood has been processed very thinly. The rounded corners, the construction of the lid, and the metal handles of the drawers are all meticulously crafted, giving the set an overall air of elegance. It has been stored at home for over 50 years, but the exact date of manufacture is unknown. It has been carefully preserved, and there are no noticeable stains or scratches. However, there are signs of kintsugi (gold repair) on the mouth of the ceramic ashtray and the edge of the lid (Photos 8 and 12). There is also some flaking of the gold on the ashtray where it rubbed against the wooden body, which is unavoidable given its use. This is because this part fits snugly against the wooden part when in use.
