This item has been at my parents' house for a long time. It seems like letters and such were kept in it. I am listing it as a tin letter case. I think there are various ways to use it. It has a cool, old look. There are traces of welding? on the sides. It has the feel of amateur welding on aluminum plates. I have added images, so please take a look.
