This is a 19th-century slop bowl purchased from an antique shop. Slop bowls are said to have been used from the mid-18th century to empty cooled tea (along with the fine tea leaves) left in teacups. They were also used to empty the remaining tea before adding hot water to the teapot. It is larger than a French café au lait bowl and has a size similar to a Japanese donburi bowl. The size is approximately 20cm in diameter and 10cm in height. As it is a very old antique, there are crazing, discoloration, and cracks, but it also has a luster, and considering its age, it is in good condition. There is a chip on the bottom. Slop bowls themselves are not very common nowadays, so I think it is a rare item. As the item is an antique, please purchase only if you fully understand the condition.
