The rayon canvas fabric with PVC processing was innovative in the 1980s, and along with the gimmick that allowed the gusset width to be expanded, it caused a big boom at the time. In those days, it was still rare to incorporate a military taste into bag designs. One of the attractions is that the gusset width and shape can be changed by opening and closing the zipper.
