Futatsuka Nagao A Living National Treasure and Yuzen artist who researches traditional Yuzen techniques and established a unique artistic style. He is a regular member of the Japan Kogei Association. He excels at boldly expressing "nature" such as water and wind, utilizing the "shiroage" technique, a method of Yuzen paste-resist dyeing that became popular in the mid-Edo period, where patterns are rendered white solely by applying it with itome-nori (fine lines of rice paste). Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1946 Became independent in 1974 after mastering traditional Yuzen techniques at a Kaga Yuzen studio in Kanazawa City. Awarded the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2006. Designated as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property "Yuzen" in 2010. Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays in 2016.
