Shide (紙垂): These are zig-zag folded white paper strips attached to shimenawa (sacred straw ropes), tamagushi (sacred sprigs), and o-nusa (purification wands). They are a symbol representing sacred places and objects. Gohei (御幣): These are ritual implements consisting of shide attached to wooden sticks (heigusuri). They are used by Shinto priests as purification tools and are also displayed on kamidana (household Shinto altars). This is a set that my Shinto priest father used when making shide.
