Sanzan Kimura (born 1927, died 1988) was a Japanese calligrapher known as the founder of modern calligraphy poetry. He advocated the idea of "unity of calligraphy and poetry" and pursued a unique expression that fused calligraphy and poetry. His works were avant-garde, going beyond the conventional framework of calligraphy, and he is regarded as a calligrapher with a rebellious spirit. The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma, houses many of Kimura Sanzan's works, demonstrating the breadth and depth of his creative activities. His representative works include "Iroha Mandala," "Yoka 1," "Requiem (I)," "The Flute of the Heart that Spits Thread," and "Two Worlds." Furthermore, Yasuki Fukushima, a poet who was influenced by his ideas and works, inherited his spirit after Kimura Sanzan's death and published the book "Burai no Haka" (The Tomb of the Rogue). This book is highly regarded as a book that conveys Kimura Sanzan's rebellious spirit and passion for art.
