This is a bolt of "Narayama Tsumugi" fabric, carefully woven in the Narayama district of Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. Born from the handwork of farmers, it has a simple warmth and the soft luster unique to silk. The striped pattern in落ち着いた色合い (calm colors) is beautiful, and it is a traditional Ueda textile that will not tire even with the passage of time. Narayama Tsumugi is especially a masterpiece of traditional crafts, using hand-spun yarn and plant-based dyes, even among Ueda Tsumugi. It is a rare tsumugi that is almost no longer woven today.
