This is a mukouzuke (small serving dish) I purchased at an antique market. The intricate, fine arabesque pattern is eye-catching. There are also flowers scattered throughout. Mass-produced items from around the Meiji era were mostly printed, but the fine arabesque patterns are often hand-painted. The inside features pine, bamboo, and plum (sho-chiku-bai). They are stylized. The rim design is a shihou-tasuki (four-sided sash) pattern. The foot design is a "ko" shape with a central bar. There is a chip on the inner rim. It's on the inside, so it's not very noticeable. There appears to be another one, but it's glazed over, so it might be a kiln mark. This is part of its character. There are almost no scratches.
