This highly prestigious shrine boasts black torii gates, a rarity with only two examples nationwide, and is said to have been established 54 years before Ise Jingu Shrine in Mie Prefecture. According to legend, in the 39th year of Emperor Sujin (59 BC), following the Imperial Goddess's instruction to "seek a separate grand place and enshrine," a sacred place for eternal worship was sought. It is said that they departed from the previously enshrined Yamato Kasunui no Mura (Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture). They first moved to Tanba (Tamba), and then, based on historical origins, this shrine was founded. After being enshrined here for four years, the Imperial Goddess, after visiting various places, settled in the sacred place above the Isuzu River in Ise (present-day Ise Jingu Shrine) in the 26th year of Emperor Suinin (4 BC).
