The 1953 Type II Jacket was created with a few modifications to the iconic Levi's Type I Jacket, which was made in 1936. This denim jacket, made of durable selvedge denim, has long been regarded as a symbol of American workers. The red tab with the capital "E" is of course present, as is the two-horse leather patch and the "XX" label, which represent the quality of the denim. The boxy, rugged appearance of the 1st, the two front pleats on the front placket, and the box stitching are also inherited. However, the chest pocket was changed to a double flap pocket, the cinch back to a button adjuster, and the outward-facing action pleats and covered rivets were changed.
