"Ejiko" is a sight commonly seen in farmhouses in the Tohoku region of Japan in the old days. It was a warm basket woven from straw, used by farmers who worked in the fields while watching over their children, to let the children sleep nearby. They called it "Ejiko." The straw used wasn't the usual straw harvested from rice plants, but rather the soft, fluffy, and tender rice straw that was just sprouting. It must have been a very warm and safe place. This "Nemuri Ejiko" (Sleeping Ejiko) is made to represent a baby resting peacefully in such a warm straw basket. It's an old item, but I think it's in good condition. There's a slight thinning of the hair at the back of the baby's head. The baby has a very cute face and is smiling.
