Japanese Pattern Aloha Shirt Utagawa Kuniyoshi Ukiyo-e "Soma no Furudairi" Skull XL "Soma no Furudairi," a representative work by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Takiyasha-hime, the orphaned daughter of Soma Kojiro (Taira no Masakado), and Yoshikado, following their father's will, gather companions in an abandoned house in Shimousa Province, which had been devastated during Masakado's rebellion, and where youkai (supernatural beings) begin to appear. The story tells of Oya no Taro Mitsukuni, a retainer of Minamoto Yorinobu, who defeats the youkai and thwarts their plot. In the original work, multiple skeletons appear, but Kuniyoshi replaced them with a single giant skeleton, creating a powerful composition. This is also known as a representative of the youkai "Gashadokuro." Originally a triptych, this design features a single panel depicting the moment Oya no Taro Mitsukuni subdues Arai Maru, a loyal retainer of the princess, and a large skull bursts through the screen from behind to attack.
