I cleaned out my mother's family's storehouse in the northern part of the prefecture. It was a struggle just to open the door. From inside such an antique door... I unearthed this item. A large tea chest made by hollowing out natural wood and applying lacquer to it. The lid has a bulge on the top and around the body, and it has a solid feel as if it were hollowed out of cypress. While my sister and husband, who were also helping with the cleanup, were busy putting the belongings on a leisure sheet in the garden... I was captivated by this tea chest and gazed at it for a while. Fortunately, the main body was wrapped in a thick cloth like burlap, so it didn't seem to have any dust or scratches. However, inside, there was only one necklace made of black-brown, old-looking candy-like beads in a cloth bag. I have no way of knowing what it means now... Considering the contents of the boxes stored in front of this, even at the closest estimate, it's from before the war... probably from the Taisho, Meiji, or even earlier periods, but I can't tell for sure. I've had it in my Japanese-style room for exactly two years, but as I begin my end-of-life preparations and decluttering, I've decided to put it up for sale. Due to aging, and especially due to the recent scorching summers, there are several cracks characteristic of natural wood.
