In the 17th and 18th centuries, when vast inland areas of North America were under French rule, there were men who crossed the Atlantic from France and traveled the American interior with Native Americans. They traded European goods for Native American furs, especially beaver pelts, and hunted together. They learned the lifestyles and culture of the Native Americans, wearing moccasins, paddling canoes, and living in forests and wilderness. Their journeys were harsh, constantly facing the danger of death. They could lose their lives to illness, injury, or the extreme cold of winter, or be attacked by hostile Native American tribes. Nevertheless, they traveled thousands of kilometers, far from their homeland, in the unexplored interior of North America. Seeking freedom and adventure, escaping the sense of stagnation brought about by the class society of their homeland, France, they were called "Coureur des bois" (runners of the woods) in French. The 2 Monkeys' 2022 autumn/winter wear line delivers items designed with inspiration from their lives of adventure. These are pants designed to be a set with the "Coureur des bois" Voyager Jacket, inspired by the clothing worn by the French who traveled the unexplored interior of North America (French Louisiana) in the 18th century for the fur trade with Native Americans. With features that evoke the era, such as a deep rise, a wide waistband with a V-shaped insert in the back, a back cinch, and suspender buttons, these pants have a relaxed thigh that tapers towards the hem, fitting today's casual style. The belt loops have been made smaller so as not to interfere with the atmosphere created by these details. (Please use a thin belt.) The material is French pique, the same as the jacket. A particularly thick pique material is used for the olive khaki, and a slightly thicker, more flexible pique material is used for the navy stripe.
