In those days, the mainstream cassette tapes were Sony, TDK, and Maxell. Other audio manufacturers also sold tapes, but their market share was very small. I always admired TEAC's cassette tapes with their gold open-reel design, but I never managed to buy one. Later, AXIA and That's gained momentum, but AXIA's high-position tapes (the item for sale here is metal) were incredibly high-cost performance, being cheap yet of excellent quality. The hundreds of air-checked tapes I own are mostly AXIA metal tapes in the latter half (because they were cheaper and higher quality than Sony and TDK's high-position tapes), and Sony and TDK tapes were more common in the first half. I'll refrain from commenting on Maxell. That's just my personal opinion.
