This is a Jiki-ori (hand-woven) Hachiju-gikko (80-count tortoise shell pattern) Honba Yuki-chijimi (Genuine Yuki Pongee). Before Honba Yuki-tsumugi (Genuine Yuki Silk) became an Important Intangible Cultural Property, Yuki-chijimi was the mainstream product. Now, the annual production is small, making it rare. Especially the chijimi-ori (pongee weave) Kasuri-kuri Beta-gikko (ikat tied solid tortoise shell pattern) is becoming a phantom. The price of Honba Yuki-chijimi at department stores seems to be about 10% more than the regular flat-woven Honba Yuki-tsumugi. For example, a Honba Yuki-tsumugi with a tobi-gara (scattered pattern) costs 2 million yen, while a Honba Yuki-chijimi with a tobi-gara costs 2.2 million yen. Kasuri-kuri Beta-gikko costs about 3 million yen, so I estimate that chijimi would be around 3.3 million yen. (I have never seen chijimi-ori Kasuri-kuri Beta-gikko sold, including wholesalers and department stores, so this is just an estimate, and it may be even more.) The lining is black Kanakin (cotton fabric). Kanakin is thick, and I can't confirm the selvedge, but the weft ground yarn is strongly twisted yarn, and the warp and weft Kasuri yarn are untwisted yarn. Therefore, although there is no certificate, it is definitely Honba Yuki-chijimi.
