The beautiful wood grain is visible. The contrast between the black and the vermilion that frames the edges is lovely. You could also use it as a coaster for Japanese tea. I probably used it once or twice, or maybe not at all, and it's been stored away for many years. Upon close inspection, there is some age-related deterioration, but there are no noticeable scratches or stains.
