Tsukamoto Toraji (1885-1973), a disciple of Uchimura Kanzo and the second leader of the Non-Church Movement, felt the need for a colloquial translation of the New Testament, which did not yet exist at the time. He was called to this difficult undertaking and completed it in 1944 during wartime, taking 14 years. He continued to revise it tirelessly, and some parts were published by Iwanami Bunko ("Gospels" and "Acts of the Apostles"), but this is the first time the entire New Testament has been compiled into one book. While maintaining academic rigor, the dynamic writing, with extensive notes in small print, has been a moving translation from the beginning. Also included are "brief notes" along with the translation. Contents (from the "BOOK" database) A well-regarded translation that balances academic rigor and readability. Includes brief notes spanning 500 pages of 400 characters each to aid in understanding the text. Previously, only the "Gospels" and "Acts of the Apostles" were available (both from Iwanami Bunko), but this is the first time the entire New Testament has been compiled into one volume. About the Author Tsukamoto Toraji (1885-1973), a disciple of Uchimura Kanzo and the second leader of the Non-Church Movement, devoted himself to evangelism. Author's Biography (from the "BOOK Author Introduction Information") Tsukamoto, Toraji Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1885, died in 1973. Graduated from the Faculty of Law, Tokyo Imperial University in 1911. Studied under Uchimura Kanzo while in school. After graduation, he entered the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. Resigned in 1919 and devoted himself to the study of the Bible. After losing his wife in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, he received the revelation "God is love" and assisted Uchimura in evangelism. In 1929, he became independent from Uchimura and presided over the "Tokyo Bible Promotion Association" (later the "Marunouchi Non-Church Christian Lecture Association"), and at the same time published the magazine "Bible Knowledge," using both as pillars for evangelism. He began translating the New Testament into colloquial Japanese in 1931 (this data was published at the time this book was published). #TsukamotoToraji #Tsukamoto_Toraji #book #religion/Christianity
