Vintage indigo-dyed Arimatsu Shibori cloth from Arimatsu, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Believed to be from the 1970s-80s. The shibori design is intricate and artistic. The soft, strong cotton, the beautiful color of the hand-dyed indigo, and the fading are wonderful. The fringed part is also carefully made, taking a considerable amount of time. It can be used in various ways, such as hanging on a wall, as a small furoshiki (wrapping cloth), or as a placemat for everyday use. Arimatsu Shibori has a history of over 400 years and was very popular as a souvenir for travelers passing along the Tokaido during the Edo period.
