It's a hydraulic type that allows for smooth height adjustment while seated, and the wide seat provides exceptional comfort and stability, making it easy on the lower back. When my drummer friends tried it out, they all raved about it, but it's very heavy... While this product is perfect as a drum throne, I've reached my limit in terms of portability, so I'm passing it on to an energetic drummer.
