I am not certain, but I believe this is a tea ceremony utensil, a Sendai specialty, made with buried wood (umoregi) inlay, likely an incense container (kogo). My mother was a tea ceremony instructor, and I brought this home when clearing out her belongings. There is no box. I would like to pass this on to someone who enjoys tea ceremony and will use it with care. Thank you.
