For my own convenience, I hand-sewed a hook-and-eye closure near the top button. When wearing it open without buttoning it, if the front flaps get in the way, you can use this hook-and-eye closure to keep it in place naturally. It's hand-sewn by an amateur, so the hook can be removed by cutting the thread. The buttons can still be fastened with the hook in place, and the hook parts are mostly invisible from the outside when worn open.
