This is a "dakibin" (a type of sake bottle) made by Kikuko Aragaki of Tsuboya-yaki, Okinawa. Size: Height: approx. 9cm, Width: approx. 11cm, Depth: approx. 4cm It has the traditional dakibin shape, but it's small, so I bought it thinking it would be good for flower arranging. The fish design is carved and painted with red and blue underglaze. Signed "Kiku". Kikuko-san is a pioneer among female ceramic artists. The fish design is a traditional symbol in Yachimun (Okinawan pottery) that represents the prosperity of descendants, and her gentle eyes and soft lines are charming. I have kept it at home without using it as a sake vessel or for flower arranging.
