1853 Shussai Kiln Matcha Bowl ⚪︎Shussai Kiln A kiln located in Shussai, Hikawa-cho (present-day Izumo City), Shimane Prefecture. Also, the pottery fired there. Shussai Kiln was established in the autumn of 1947, shortly after the war, by five young men in Hikawa-cho, Shimane Prefecture, on the banks of the Hii River, which flows into Lake Shinji. Influenced by William Morris, guided by Kanjiro Kawai, Shoji Hamada, and Bernard Leach, and resonating with the folk art theory through an encounter with Soetsu Yanagi, a promoter of the folk art movement, they wished to create "healthy, warm, and everyday utensils that support life." Using local soil, they have been firing simple, practical, everyday utensils by hand to this day. ●Size: (approx.)
