This is a zelkova serving dish. While it doesn't have the flamboyant appearance of a figured grain, from the perspective of a craftsperson, it's made from what is called an old tree, not a young one. The wood has a good texture and the zelkova material cuts well with a blade. The style is suitable for craft exhibitions and has a wiped lacquer finish.
