Takashima Chijimi has been produced in Takashima City, located northwest of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, since the Tenmei era of the Edo period. The tradition continues today with chijimi, crepe, and yanagi (crepe) fabrics. The fabric's unique shibo (unevenness) reduces the contact area with the skin, providing a cool, smooth feel and excellent absorbency, making it a refreshing material suitable for the hot and humid climate of Japan.
